Sierra Leone Premier League Round Up: Ports Authority Coach Concedes Title To FC Kallon

After a 2-0 loss to the league leaders, Ports Authority coach Abu Bakar Tostao believes his side are mathematically out of this year’s title challenge.

Wednesday’s loss to FC Kallon was the second defeat in five days for the Water Front Boys and it prompted coach Abu Bakar Tostao to launch a fierce attack on his players for lack of discipline and focus.

The loss leaves Tostao’s side 13 points adrift of leaders FC Kallon with just six games remaining and while the Water Front Boys boss insists his team will not give up the fight, he accepts that realistically their chance has gone.

“We lost a game we couldn’t afford to lose in the title race, mathematically we are now out of it, we are with 33 points whiles they are with 46 points; we can no longer catch them even if we win all our remaining six matches. The way they are playing it is difficult to say they will lose four or three matches,” stated Tostao.

“I believe we were not focused. The boys always lack concentration, and above that they are not tactically disciplined. In football you have to stay focused for 90 minutes otherwise you run the risk of being punished.”

The FC Kallon boss, Charlie Wright, said he was pleased with his side’s performance and their approach to the match. The win moves them eight points above champions East End Lions who will be facing Nepean Stars on Friday in Freetown.

In Kono, Diamond Stars move to fifth place in the table after a 1-0 victory over Mighty Blackpool. The home win saw the Gem boy’s side now level on 27 points with the Tiss Tass boys.
