Don’t Try Bio …TRC Chair Cautions Govt’

News of the ruling APC party bringing elements of the NPC government officials with specific reference to Julius Maada to book for the arbitrary killing of 27 people without the due intervention of the law has sparked a lot trouble around and now former Chairman of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC), Bishop Joseph Humper has said that the ruling APC government will be opening a “Pandora’s Box” if it decides to set up a Commission of Enquiry to look into the execution of former police chief, Bambay Kamara and others.

This pronouncement from the government has left many people contemplating their future in the country; fearing what would become of them owing to the ambiguous nature of the pronouncement as many political stakeholders in both the ruling party and the opposition Sierra Leone People’s party were very much part of the NPRC that are now said must face the book.

News from the APC parlance have that the APC pronouncement is targeted at party leadership aspirant for the SLPP and former head of the NPRC junta Julius Maada Bio.

With the causes for the devastating civil war, he said such a commission would mean that the government did not respect the recommendations of the TRC report. The former TRC Chairman added that the TRC reports recommended that by-gone be by-gone. He advised the government to go back to the report if it meant well for the country.

Meanwhile, some Sierra Leoneans have lashed out at the government for the proposal, adding that it would “open old wounds.” However, the Minister of Information, Ibrahim Ben Kargbo has argued that the families if the 27 people that were executed wanted to know more about the trail and execution. He said purpose of the proposed commission was -to investigate the procedure through which Bambay Kamara and the others were executed. The main opposition, Sierra Leone People’s Party, SLPP has called the government’s move a waste of national resources and an attempt to hinder the national reconciliation process.
