Bele Uman project: Saving Mother, Saving Lives

Fredanna M’Cormack, Assistant Professor at Coastal Carolina University (CCU) in the USA, will return to her home country Sierra Leone in less than a month to commence the ‘Bele Uman Project: Saving Mother, Saving Lives.’

Part of Fredanna’s research will cover maternal mortality in Sierra Leone, where the country’s  ratio is 2,100 deaths per 100,000 people.   Together with her colleague Fredanna will resesarch why women are dying,  why they choose to deliver in their homes with traditional birth attendants (where many have no medical training) , and what the problems are as far as not going to hospital to deliver.
