Port Loko Satisfied With District Council
Residents of Port Loko in the Northern Province of the country are satisfied with the activities and accomplishments of the District Council taking into consideration the various developmental programmes they have undertaken in just this short time of their election.
In a forum held recently at the District square, the people expressed appreciation for the work of the Chairman of the District Council, Ahmed Munir Fofana, and the Chief Administrator, Mohamed Shek Kargbo; who according to them do not just implement development programmes but also get people involved in undertaking such programmes.
One of the elders who spoke on the occasion, Pa Alimamy Bangura, an elder from Patifu village, described the right people that will take development of the District to the grassroots. A human rights activist and social worker on the occasion also referred to the District administration as development oriented.
One of the recent developments that solicited the praise for the district council is the construction of a road linking Konta Wallah, a fishing community in the Port Loko district, to market centres in the Kambia District; a development that has ensured that the community gets income from its fishing activities. In return, people from Kambia can also come to Konta Wallah on a trade basis, making the constituency economically viable.
Speaking to Sierra Express, Ya Marie Kargbo commended the council Chairman and the Chief Administrator for construction of the Masambarie Bridge that has brought so much development in the lives of the people of Patifu. Among other things to their credit the District council has also been lauded for the construction of the Parish Centre at Patifu where most community meetings are held, it has also constructed a clinic for the people of the area; something that has been lacking in the place forever.
At Pepel in the district, the District council has been able to construct two Mosques as a Ramadan gift for the people. The people also registered their gratefulness to the Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA) who in collaboration with the District Council is constructing the Port Loko/Kambia highway; a venture which according to them will let the people derive untold benefits.
In other development a group of youths referred to as ‘Concerned Youth for Development Organization’ in Port Loko Town has initiated projects for the construction of 6 roundabouts with railings and sitting accommodation for relaxation. Head of the project Ahmed Kargbo told SEM that the organization consists of 15 male and 5 females who have volunteered to assist in their own small way to bringing development to the District. The work of the government, according to Ahmed Kargbo, must be complemented in such ways if an overall success should be guaranteed.
