LUC Kono issue last warning to Okada riders
Local Unit Commander of Tankoro Police division Chief Superintendent of Police Amos Kargbo issued a last warning to members of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF), Paramount Chiefs, Councilors, Colleague Senior Police Officers, and Parliamentarians etc., that he would not compromise the arrest of Okada riders in the city of Koidu.
Chief Superintendent Kargbo made this disclosure over the weekend via telephone interview to our reporter that there has been a series of reports from members of the public that Okada riders plying their trade in Kono are causing serious accidents to people living in the community and as a result of that a lot of people have been disfigured by Okada riders. According to him, he was issuing this warning due to the high level of indiscipline in the township among Okada riders as the days for honeymoon for criminals, lawlessness and indiscipline are over as the police will prosecute offenders to the limit of their powers.
The no nonsense Amos Kargbo noted that he had plans to commence a ‘crusade’ against Okada riders. He therefore called on all ‘Okada’ riders for a change of attitude in the discharge of their duty. “As a season senior police officer, a disciplinarian and law abiding officer heading the Tankoro police station that requires discipline I will not sit by and allow Okada riders to distress people†said LUC Amos Kargbo.
“It is utter rubbish for someone to buy an Okada for a whopping sum of Le5 million without being able to insure it for Le300,000†he stressed. This nonsense has to stop forthwith, if not I will be going on the offensive come next week as long as I have issued my last warnings to all stakeholders in the community who would want to come and plead for Okada riders as such pleas will be rebuffed for the rule of law as it is supreme.
He called on the press to raise the awareness that both the passenger and the rider should wear crash helmet avoid riding dangerously and using an unauthorized routes is an offence. He stated that he has been informed that a lot of people have been injured by Okada riders, yet still people continued to ride on Okada because it is fast but not secured and safe.
