The political but wise fools of Pujehun & Kailahun District
Oh yes, the people of Pujehun and Kailahun districts are fools and have always been so. They are the only people who have always stood for their rights and refused to have anyone force things down their throat. They are foolish because they insist on a free choice of the leaders who should represent them in Parliament, in local government and in other institutions. They are quite unlike their brothers and sisters in for instance Bombali who have always voted APC no matter how much development the SLPP has taken to them; and who are not swayed by infrastructural development or any opportunities provided for them by the SLPP.Â
The people of Pujehun had it rough shod over them in 1982 when some among them connived with foreign elements to lay their district to waste until that wise and mysterious mythical devil the Ndorgboyosoi went to their rescue. They went through a similar experience in a local government election in 2009 when they were sufficiently frightened to abandon their homes and villages which enabled the APC to impose a councilor on them who was not their choice.
Now they have been foolish enough to cry that “enough was enough; thus far and no more†and by that succeeded in electing their favourite Sulaiman Feika to represent them in Parliament. As for the primitively loyal people of Kailahun, their history goes back to the bye elections of late 1968 when they made it clear at Manowa that democracy means “A government of the people, by the people and for the people.†They are particularly stubborn in their foolishness because they listen to the wise counsel of their leaders.
All this is anathema to the miserable fellows at Kissy Road who apply the misnomer of champion to themselves. Champion, may be, but African Champion is a bit farfetched. Siaka Stevens always admonished people to “engage brain before operating mouth†or typewriter.  Winston Churchill the great British orator and statesman went to the other bastion of Tory public school education Harrow. There his Tutor described him as a “dunce who was often clever.†The people of Pujehun and Kailahun may be political fools, but when have their political decisions not been wise? A Brima Sannoh who to all intents and purposes must hail from the Pujehun district once referred to the “primitive loyalty of the people of Kailahun.†I wonder that he did not go out to educate his people in the recent bye elections in that district; on the contrary he has remained conspicuously silent in all of these exercises. The African Champion has named some leaders from Kailahun who according to the editorial must be misleading their people. They include the SLPP national chairman John Benjamin, Dr. John Karimu, Dr. Bernadette Lahai, actually she hails from Kenema and inevitably Puawui as among those who are misleading their people. Musa Fayia is quoted in an imaginary interview as saying that we are behaving like white men who refuse to go down to meet our people. And yet these same people respect and accept the advice and leadership that we give them.  How very foolish and incredible, but that is the African Champion whose naivety was exposed recently when it wrote that Maada Bio had split the SLPP. And believe it or not the story was that Bio an alleged aspirant for the SLPP leadership was gaining grounds. What muddled inference and the managing editor sees red when he is described as an academic dwarf.
