Addressing a press conference held at the Ministry of Health and Sanitation Conference hall on Friday May 21sr 2010, Rev. Dr. T. T. Samba, programme manager at the Ministry of Health, disclosed that Maternal and Child Week (Mamie en Pikin Wel bodi Week)  Campaign will kick off on May 28th-31st 2010.

According to Dr. Samba, Sierra Leone had the worst health indicators adding that Vitamin A supplementation, will be administered to 6-59 months old baby, deworming tablets 12-59 months ITN distribution 0-6 months children and bed net for six months. He called on the media to raise the much needed health awareness in order for the people to come out in their thousands. He further called on suckling mothers to do exclusive breast feeding as it is good for their babies. Dr. Samba also spoke on Reproductive Health Counseling and hand washing with soap.

Dr. Augustine Kabanoh, of the United Nations Country Team (UNCT) in his key note address said the welbodi week comes at a very important time as there is a great momentum on improving the health situation in Sierra Leone. The campaign is integral part of the free health. He stated that long lasing insecticide nets for children will be given on the day of the campaign as the campaign is to reach any child. He called on the press for collective responsibility to make sure everybody is being vaccinated. He pointed out that the United Nations Country Team is proud of the government of Sierra Leone and the people as the UNCT system is Sierra Leone is working with the government.  The chairman of the conference was Mr. Lansana Conteh of Health Education Division, the ceremony was jam packed.
