NRM cautions APC leadership

The National Reformation Movement (NRM), a radical group of the opposition All Peoples Congress Party (APC), pushing for democratic reforms in the party, has alerted the leadership of the party on the dire consequences that the party would be plunged into in the event of appealing the recent interim orders of the High Court, which restrain all overdue executive officers from taking part in an emergency national delegates conference for the adoption of the new constitution and to resolve outstanding membership issues.

“We want the Chairman and Leader, whose mandate has expired, and who is the mastermind of all the chaos in the APC, to know that we at the movement have the same energies he has in fomenting chaos”, the NRM said in a position statement issued on 30th April. The Movement further reiterated their unrelenting commitment to the struggle for democracy in the party.

This latest statement by the NRM has been made in the aftermath of an emergency meeting of the National Advisory Committee (NAC), summoned by the leadership in the regional hub of Makeni on 28th April 2021 to take a decision on the Court Orders. The meeting was said to be heated as NAC was divided over the decision to appeal or not to appeal. Many Constituency and District Chairmen were said to have opposed the path of appeal, while a group of deviants allegedly backed by the Secretary General, Alhaji  Osman Foday Yansanneh, whose mandated had long expired, favoured an appeal.

“The appeal is a landmine for the party, with the propensity to defeat the purpose of the new constitution” said a seasoned politician of the party.
