The meeting was ably chaired by the outgoing chairman of the branch: 7205 – Fofanah Mohamed. The association would hold its national executive election on Easter Monday, 5th April, 2021. At the Bo branch meeting, two persons declared for the position of National Secretary General, namely George Dambo (4749) and the Director General of National Civil Registration Authority Mohamed Massaquoi (5731).
Mr. George Dambo is the current assistant Secretary General. In his declaration, he claimed that he had served the association in several districts including Koinadugu and Moyamba and that in fact he was doing most of the work of the Secretary General so that the office would not be strange to him.
Mr. Massaquoi, a former Senior Prefect of Bo School and current Director of NACRA, promised to work hand in glove with the incoming President and said he had registered landmarks for the association in terms of employing old boys.
Meanwhile, social media exchanges have caused tension to mount over the election of President of OBBA. It was earlier thought that there was going to be a smooth transition from the outgoing President professor Dr Alpha Wurie (2408) to his Vice President Alhaji Kalilu Omar Bah (2707). But with the emergence of Hadji Daboh (2439) there is likely to be a keen contest.
K. O. Bah (as he is fondly called) had been chairman of the Western Area branch before he became Vice President. Hadji Daboh too has been passionate about the school and its development making financial and material contribution to Bo School and OBBA when necessary. Despite the tension, a very senior old boy told this press that, “historically, traditionally and democratically, Bo School has always settled its leadership problem without causing any grudge between parties.” If the democratic means becomes absolute, there will also be a shift from the traditional showing of hands to a secret ballot.
An original OBBA member has however raised serious concern over the Le 600,000 registration membership fee, which could not be afforded by a majority of eligible grass root and less fortunate members, which may send cold shivers at the celebrations.
