National Call for Bio to Sack Aggressive Lands Minister in Sierra Leone
Sierra Leoneans across the length and breadth of the country have expressed dismay that, they were expecting His Excellency President Retired Julius Maada Bio to have included Dr. Dennis Sandy who have on several occasions describing himself as the aggressive Minister of Lands Country Planning and the Environment during his first cabinet reshuffle because he worked with the previous Government of former President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma but amazingly, he still remains protected as one of the sacred cows in the Sierra Leone Peoples Party Government.
Several complaints have been made against Dr. Sandy over what many described as illegal demolition and unlawful repossession of private lands in the Western Area, purportedly to be Government properties.
Among the indigenes of the Charlotte community, Dr. Sandy is described as one of the worst and uncivilized public officials in the President Bio’s administration because they said, he carried out a demolition exercise in their private properties without engaging a single stakeholder to know when, why and how the destruction of their erected structures must be taken place.
The most disheartening point in the whole episode according to the frustrated citizens is that, Dr. Sandy did not only converted a private building to a Government property with the statement that he was going to compensate a meager amount of five million Leones to the owner of the building and employ one of the occupants as Forest Rangers/Guards. This decision taken by the Minister did not go down well with the disgruntled private land owner because he said; the money he spent does not commensurate to what the aggressive Minister proposed to give him.
In another ugly development, Dr. Sandy and his well-armed OSD and military personnel moved from Charlotte village to Hill Top/Hill Station where concrete fences and houses were not only brought down but numerous bundles of zinc were also catered away under the full supervision of Minister Sandy.
Recently, the Krio Descendants Association met at the Atlantic Hall, National Stadium in Freetown where they took firm decision to fight back Dr. Sandy for illegally demolishing and reclaiming private lands in the Western Area. Many supporters and sympathizers of the ruling SLPP are worried that, Dr. Sandy use of excessive power may grumble President Bio’s re-election in 2023.
According to residents of Hill Top and Charlotte, Dr. Sandy continues to terrorize and destabilize peaceful Sierra Leoneans because he allegedly possessed the endorsement of President Bio to wreck helpless citizens with the motive that all lands belongs to Government.
What was confusing according to victims of Dr. Sandy’s selective justice, prior to the demolition of Charlotte on the same day, Sandy and his armed men stopped at a junction and later drove off to State Lodge where they spent some time before coming back from the President’s residents. Many onlookers suggested that, Dr. Sandy must have spoken with President Bio if he was at State Lodge before they left to Charlotte where poor and helpless souls shed tears.
They therefore are calling on Civil Society activists to caution Dr. Dennis Sandy as the Government continues protecting him as sacred cow.
