In Order to Stifle Opposition SLPP Politicizes SLP, ACC, Others

One of the core values of democracy is the independence of state institutions which guarantees equal rights and justice, freedom of expression, association and peaceful co-existence in a state. Over the last decade or so during the last five years leaderships of the late President Ahmed Tejan Kabba and the ten years of former President Koroma, Sierra Leone and its citizens have enjoyed most of these democratic virtues.

But in the last nine months of President Bio’s Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) Paopa leadership, the country’s democracy has been put under consistent attacks through the actions of the government and its officials which have led to the massive decline or in most cases, non- existence of democratic values Sierra Leoneans have been enjoying.

Since its election into office in April last year, the Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) administration has succeeded in destroying most of the core values of democracy including the lack of respect for rule of law and due processes as seen in the various unconstitutional dismissals of public and civil servants including the former Anti-corruption Commissioner, Immigration boss among hundreds of others, lack of respect for the human rights of citizens as seen in the illegal dissolution of the Human Rights Commission and the consequent brutality meted out to innocent citizens across the country  including politically motivated killings, gang rapes among several other horrendous atrocities on a daily basis, and worst of it all, the politicization of state institutions  particularly the Sierra Leone Police, Anti-Corruption Commission, Military,  and the Judiciary which are now been used by the Paopa SLPP to suppress the opposition.
