CCYA Partners with Action Aid-SL to Implement EC Youth Leadership Training

The Centre for Coordination of Youth Activities (CCYA) in collaboration with Action Aid Sierra Leone has completed Youth Transformational Leadership Training on the Project Titled: Mobilizing Civil Society Organizations’ (CSOs) Support for the implementation of the African Governance Architecture with support from the European Commission (EU).

The historic Training which was held at the Hotel Five -Ten (5-10) in the eastern part of the capital city  2018 attracts the attention of various CSOs, Traditional Leaders ,Youth Groups ,the media among other influential people on the 28th September 2018.

Presenting the Project Proposal, the Executive Director of CCYA, Abigail Stevens expressed appreciations to trainees and other high profile authorities for gracing the occasion nothing the Overall Objective of the Project is to ensure that Africa Union member states are more democratic and accountable to their citizens in alignment with legal instruments, institution and processes of the African Governance Architecture (AGA).

Director Stevens disclosed that the project focus on the African Charter on Democracy Elections and Good Governance because according to her it addresses many of the reforms needed to improve governance by getting citizens active participation with a sustained engagement of the process over time to hold their electorate accountable to uphold the tenants of good democratic principles adding   three years project being implemented in eight countries by Ghana, Mozambique, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe for the first phase of the project.

She said the project has two outcomes which includes the increased demand from citizens of AU member states, particularly young women and men (Rural and Urban) in 8 focus countries for the implementation of the African Charter on Democracy, Elections and Governance (ACDEG) by African Governments and that the second outcome target the increased in effective coordination and engagement of CSOs including youth and women’s organizations with member states in the SADC ,ECOWAS and EAC regions for the implementation of AU legal instruments especially the ACDEG.

She added that CCYA and Action Aid Sierra Leone will continue with Youth Engagement activities across the country adding the partnership has a strong component of youth involvement, developing the mindset and commitment of young people in the 8 focus countries.

She noted that, in the three targeted regions to engage in AU policy and decision-making processes nothing the fact that the focus on raising awareness and engagement with the ACDEG will create an inspiring progressive vision that speaks to youth aspirations.

Executive Director went further to explained the Training Curriculum which she said will enable youth to familiarize themselves with AGA, ACDEG  and how it is relevant to their own country with enormous youth challenges  and solutions.

She continues that the training had included a week of workshop style learning and a week of action-taking ideas to the street to engage people. She said the project will build-in incentives to plan and implement follow up mobilization/empowerment activities adding there will be full certificate recognizing completion of the course.
