Fisheries Minister Vows to Tackle Illegal Fishing Activities

The Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources (MFMR), Mrs. Emma Kowa Jalloh has vowed to tackle illegal activities of foreign fishing vessels in various fishpond communities in a bid to increase revenue mobilization for the development of the nation.

The minister made the statement during the weekly government press briefing in the Ministry of Information and Communication (MIC) Conference Hall in Freetown 28th June 2018.

In her PowerPoint Presentation, the minister noted that her ministry has initially concluded consultative engagement with the European Union in a bid to fast track the process of issuing yellow cards for Sierra Leonean citizens and that the bilateral relationship between the Government of Sierra Leone and European Union will continue in line with the New Direction.

Madam Jalloh noted that, her ministry will continue to engage concern authorities for the development of the fisheries and marine resources department adding that the ministry has trained various fishing monitors who would be in the forefront in the fight against illegal fishing activities across the territorial ecosystem of Sierra Leone.
