citizens pray against darkest country nomenclature

As acute power shortage which has been a thing of the past in the Ex-President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma’s administration, Religious leaders from both faiths i.e. Islam and Christianity in various Mosques and Churches have offered special prayers for the country never to return to the ancient days when it was considered as the darkest city in the world.

In the 2002 Presidential election which was won by late President Alhaji Ahmed Tejan Kabbah under the etiquettes   of the Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) against the outgoing President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma, politicians based their campaign on the promise of bringing constant electricity supply if voted in office but the SLPP which was in governance did less to meet that promise.

In the 2007 Presidential election which brought the All Peoples Congress (APC) back to power, former President Koroma was campaigning with the motive of bringing permanent electricity supply for Sierra Leoneans and he almost succeeded for the fact that, he left behind booming electricity supply not only in Freetown but in various headquarter towns of the country which experienced continuous blackout for over thirty years.

When he took over the mantle of power in 2007 as Freetown ranked the darkest city in the world at large, President Koroma promised to electrify the country within the first one hundred days which he succeeded to achieve.

Although, former President Koroma took over a country that was dominated with ‘Kabbah Tigers” as a result of the defunct power supply system that was hitting the nation. In fact, it was the time the assassinated President of the Lybia, Mohammad Ghadifi entered Freetown and asked if it was the capital city because resembled a village setting where birds sing and frogs cry at night.

But the ugly story of Sierra Leone was changed positively with the coming of President Koroma for the fact that he was able to stabilize electricity throughout his ten years uninterrupted rule.

That is why we are praying together as a nation for our dream of taking the country to prosperity with growing power supply never to be reversed.

But we are worried because, we have started seeing again flip-flop electricity supply as soon as the SLPP Government takes over leadership.

However, we are still hoping that the current Government under the leadership of His Excellency Brigadier Retired Julius Maada Winnie Bio will go the length and breadth of the universe to ensure the country flourish with nonstop power supply.
