NATCOM PRESS RELEASE

It has come to the notice of the National Telecommunications Commission  v(NATCOM) that the Social Media is awash with audio and video clips purporting that the Commission entered the premises of the collation center of the Sierra Leone People’s Party in order to disrupt the ongoing activities in the said collation center. The Commission is also aware that a private Television Station (Africa Young Voices) broadcast video footage of the scene.

The commission wishes to inform the general public that the Commission was requested by the Cyber Security Unit of the Sierra Leone Police to proceed to a location in Goderich to inspect some suspected telecommunications equipment.  Based on the usual collaboration between the Commission and the Sierra Leone Police on matters relating to Telecommunications and Cyber Security in the Country, the Commission proceeded to the said location.

NATCOM being the competent authority to inspect all ICT equipment, responded to the call and arrived at the scene, but however faced great resistance and could not enter the premises for the purpose of inspecting the suspected Telecommunications equipment.

The Commission reiterates that in the performance of its functions it has never been used and will never be used to intimidate any member of the public, let alone a political party.

However, the Commission is happy that the situation has been amicably resolved and supports peaceful elections in Sierra Leone.
