Cottage Hospital Nutrition Unit Traumatized
Sierra Express Media (SEM) has discovered that despite media reports on the appalling condition of the Nutrition Unit at the Ola During Children’s Hospital (Cottage) situated along Fourah Bay Road, the Ministry of Health and Sanitation has made no positive move to improve the situation.
Interrogating staff at the unit some time ago, they confessed in a vexed mood that the entire component still operates in an inadequate space that is preventing them from accommodating the high number of malnourished children and their mothers visiting the centre on a daily basis.
According to findings, Nutritionist and Sisters find it extremely tedious to perform their duty because there is no specified office space for Nutritionist as well as the Sisters who are sharing a small single room to do their official task.
Contacting the Hospital Matron about the unfavorable condition in the traumatized Nutrition Unit and how they are managing the Blood Bank, she refused taking any interview with remarks that she could only respond to media discussion if she receives a written order from the communication unit in the Ministry of Health and Sanitation (MOHS).
It is against that backdrop Sierra Express Media is joining the vulnerable mothers and children to call on President Koroma who is the initiator of the Free Healthcare (FHC) through the Minister of Health and Sanitation, Dr. Abubakarr Fofanah to act upon the cries of citizens by modernizing the unit and provide required food for malnourished babies and mothers because they are the direct beneficiaries of FHC initiative.
