China Expresses Condolences to victims of Sierra Leone’s Tragic Landslide

When asked about the tragic landslide disaster caused by heavy rain and flood on August 14, 2017 in Sierra Leone which led to hundreds of casualties and injuries, the Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson HUA Chunying expressed deep condolences and sympathies to the Sierra Leonean government and people.

In her statement, HUA Chunying said China has recently suffered similar natural disasters such as the Jiuzhaigou earthquake, and we are sympathetic for the tragic disaster that occurred in Sierra Leone. We are relieved to learn that after the disaster happened, a number of local Chinese enterprises participated in the disaster relief operations and provided necessary rescue equipment. The Chinese government stands ready to provide further support and assistance should the Sierra Leone side deems appropriate. We also hope and firmly believe that under the leadership of the government headed by President Ernest Bai Koroma, the Sierra Leonean people will definitely overcome the disaster and rebuild their homes soon.
