After 33 Years of Diligent Service, Mohamed King Koroma Resigns Honorably
After spending over three decades of effective and diligent service to the institution and the nation as a whole, the former Statistician General, Mohamed King Koroma has resigned as one of the best heads of Statistics Sierra Leone. Mr. Koroma, who spent just under four years of his professional life outside Statistics Sierra Leone when he was teacher at the Bo Government Secondary School in 1980 to 1984, came to the institution in 1984 as a Statistician in the Central Statistics Office (CSO).
Since coming to the institution, he went through the rigorous of it by serving in many capacities including Statistician from 1984 to 1986, Statistician/ Programmer from 1987 to 1989, Statistician/ Senior Programmer from 1989 to 1991, Senior Statistician/ Chief Programmer from 1996 to 2003, Director, Data of Processing, SSL from 2003 to 2007, Deputy Statistician General from 2007 to 2009 and Statistician General from 2009 until his retirement in June this year.
During his years of service, King Koroma also held several managerial positions including Manager, Foreign Trade Statistics Section from 1984 to 1986, Technical Manager, Bombali district in the 1985 Population and Housing Census, Manager, Sample Survey Section, Manager, Compilation and Processing of Business and Industry Statistics Section from 1988 to 1989, Manager, Data Processing Section from 1989 to 1991, Head, Data Processing Division from 1994 to 2002 and Acting Director, Censuses and Surveys Division from 2005 to 2007 to name but a few.
Educationally, Mohamed King Koroma holds a Master of Engineering (M. Eng.) in Computer Science/ Statistical Computing acquired in Huazhong University of Science and Technology in Wuham, P.R. China and several other qualifications including a Bachelor of Science (B. Sc.) Double Mathematics acquired in Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone and eight different post- graduate Certificates in Statistical and computer programs.
In his work life, the former S.G, gave his best in all the capacities he served. He had a great passion for his job and always wants the best for his institution and the country as a whole. He is simple and modest but disciplined in terms of discharging his duties. His reign as Statistician General saw a lot of improvement in the institution during which he was able to restore the confidence of donor partners and the government to release monies for their activities. He left as a great hero by being the head of the institution to have conducted the best Population and Housing Census ever in the history of Statistics Sierra Leone.
Well done Mr. Koroma. The people of this country are really proud of you. We wish you well in your next life endeavor.
