State lottery raises concern
Managing Director of Sierra Leone State Lottery Company, Charles F. Kamara has on Tuesday 13th June 2017, expressed challenge over the un-regulatory measures the State betting company is been faced with.
He made this statement during a Parliamentary summoned instructed by the Chairman of Committee on Trade and Industry Hon. Amara Francis Kai Samba of Constituency 010 Kenema district at Committee Room (1) Parliament Building at OAU Drive Tower Hill, Freetown.
This problem according to the M.D has still not been resolved adding that the meeting with parliament will go a long way in helping them to address this long standing problem.
Mr. Kamara further informed Parliamentarians that the Company has a very cordial relationship with National Commission for Privatization (NCP) citing several meetings, consultations as well as engagements they have had over the years all in a bid to address the problems facing the Company which Parliament is well aware of.
Speaking on their relationship with other betting companies, Mr. Kamara express dissatisfaction that those companies have not been taking them seriously particularly so when they are not the ones providing licenses for them.
He therefore called on stakeholders especially Parliament to provide them with guiding principles and protection so as to be considered like National Revenue Authority (NRA), NASSIT amongst others.
He maintained that, they have tried their best to improve and work above the initial 30 % to 57%, but frantically lacks regulatory mechanism as they are currently running into loss.
