Abu Bakarr Jalloh, New Sierra Leonean Ambassador to Libya, takes leave of President Koroma

The presidential-appointed parliamentary-approved Sierra Leonean Ambassador to Libya, Abubakarr Jalloh, erstwhile Minister of Mineral Resources, Tuesday 4th May 2010 took leave of President Ernest Bai Koroma at a ceremony at State House.

Accompanied by family members, friends and former colleague Ministers, Ambassador Jalloh thanked the President for the appointment and the confidence reposed in him to serve his country in such a position. “This is a new field but I would use my talent and explore all the fields of endeavor to bring laurels to the party, the government, the country, and the people,” he said.

Ambassador Jalloh told the Head of State that he had come to say goodbye with his family and friends to fetch final presidential blessings, promising to live up to expectations.

Replying, President Koroma congratulated the new envoy and his family. “This is a continuation of the public service role as your own contribution to your country… and be aware that as you go to represent Sierra Leone, much is expected of you,” he impressed on the Ambassador.

According to the President, the Ambassador should know that diplomatic service should no longer be limited to armchair administration or ‘wining and dining’, but to go out there, actively hobnob with other members of the international community focusing on developmental issues, and “in each step of the way asking yourself ‘what is in there for Sierra Leone?’”. President Koroma urged the Ambassador to take cognizance that the latter’s family had accompanied him to also impress a moral responsibility on him in the discharge of his duties.

The President hoped that with the ambassador’s appointment, Sierra Leone would strike the right chord that would open the benefits that other countries had been deriving from Libya. President Koroma wished him all the best and promised his personal and government support.

The Ambassador was earlier introduced by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Vandi Minah.
