Shan Steel Limited to face court action

The Ministry of Labour and Social Security will within seven days drag the Chinese company Shan Steel Limited to court unless its Vice President honours the Ministry’s invitation for an alleged non-payment of backlogs and other entitlement due Christopher Nicol and sic others.

According to an official letter the Labour Minister Hon. Matthew M. Teambo (Dr.) wrote to the Chairman Shan Steel Limited with the subject End of Service Benefits Alleged Non-Payment of Backlogs and Other Entitlement Due Christopher Nicol and Six Others,   “I refer to the subject matter and to inform you that the Ministry under my leadership has done all it could to ensure that the matter mentioned above is solved amicably at the Ministry of Labour and Social Security.

“Unfortunately, all our efforts have proven fruitless, coupled with the fact that the Vice Chairman of your company never honored any of my invitation letters.

“However, considering that the Industrial Court is the last point of referral, I want to inform you officially that the Ministry is now preparing the matter to go to the court within seven days upon receipt of this correspondence.

You have been informed.”

Hon. Matthew M. Teambo (Dr.) copied the letter to the Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Security, the Vice Chairman – Shan Steel Limited, the Chief Executive Officer – Shan Steel Limited, and Mr. Christopher Donald Nicol.

The other affected redundant workers include Kai Senesie, Alieu M. Mansaray, Alpha Kamara, Mohamed Barrie, Mohamed Nuyasa, Hassan Bangura and Gibrilla Bangura.
