Sheikh Lectures on Mother Khadija’s Death

Sheikh Ramadan Bah from Freetown Central Mosque and International Institute for Islamic Studies in Wilkinson Road Freetown has delivered a wonderful teaching on the death, philosophy and benefit of Ramadan (Fasting) at Freetown Radio FM.90.4 on Wednesday 15th June 2016 in a program organized by the Cultural Centre of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The erudite man of God described Neneh Kadija as the mother of all believers who supported Prophet Mohammad (SAW) in receiving the first revelation of the Quran during this holy month of Ramadan.

He preached that God sent angel Gibril to the messenger to recite the name of God who created him and all mankind. After receiving the verse highlighted above, Sheikh Bah said the Prophet felt cold but he was encouraged by his first wife Khadija whom he told to cover him with blanket.

‘’Khadija supported Prophet Mohammad with her treasure to strengthen and propagate Islam’’ he asserted and mentioned that the great woman (Khadijah) died on the 10th of Ramadan while the prophet’s mother also died the same year and that was why that period was described by the prophet as a year of sorrow and wonder.

The prophet traded for Khadijah with honesty and as a result she happily declared her intention to marry him adding that she gave birth to the twelfth Imams including Imam Hassan Askari, Alhussaine, and Imam Ali among others.

On the philosophy and benefit of Ramadan, the learned Sheikh disclosed that fasting are countable days either 29 or 30 days but he quickly mentioned that a sick person or traveller who cover 48 kilometre should break his or her fast. He admonished that those who couldn’t fast for certain reasons should measure in full and feed a poor man. He spoke on the necessity involved for someone to volunteer and observe the stipulated days of fasting.

He discussed that the holy Quran was revealed to the prophet as a lawful guidance and emphasized that fasting promote good health and he urged full grown young men to marry if they could take care of their wives. He declared that if young people don’t possessed the means to marry let them observe fasting to control their desires.

He deliberated that fasting comes directly from God to man and he therefore advised all Muslims to not be hypocritical or boastful when fasting or give charity to the less privilege. He pointed out that the failure amongst us is the person who derived no blessing or reward at the end of fasting.

He further deliberated that a Muslim who is in fast must not say, touch, look or listen continuously to forbidden things. He supplement that music is prohibited in the sight of God and continued that only proud people could follow or supported musicians. He urged all Muslims not to go in bad places like night club and mentioned that your body parts will be witness against you in the hereafter.

He condemned lie during fasting and advised that a Muslim who is fasting should not use paste to clean his mouth because it destroys the fast and he recommended the use of empty brush or dry stick to clean once mouth and stated that fasting brings a believer closer to God.

‘’During fasting all the doors in Hell are closed while the heaven is opened widely for Muslims and good people to enter paradise’’ said the Sheikh and raised that fasting did not only lead to sincere worship to God or gives opportunity for Muslims to benefitted directly from God but it also prevails equality among Muslim worshipper for the fact the rich and poor felt the same hunger and thirst.

He concluded that fasting is unacceptable if a Muslim fails to offer zakat which he said it must be given to the poor before going to the field to perform Eid prayer and he expressed sympathy to all Muslims in the world for the death of Khadijatul Kubra.
