She made this statement during the commission of the newly rehabilitated and refurbished Licensing Hall and the Ultra Modern vehicle Workshop at the Authority’s Head Office in Freetown.

In her statement during the commissioning, Dr Bendu gave a brief history of the setting of the Authority, which she said was created by an Act of Parliament in 1996. As of December 2014, she said that the Authority has rebranded from the Sierra Leone Road Transport Authority to Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority in a bid to lay emphasis on road safety in line with the President Ernest Bai Koroma’s Agenda for Prosperity. She said that this project was born out of the need for change by the Board the Administration and staff of the Authority and the strong political will of the President Ernest Bai Koroma.

The Executive Director also disclosed plans which are on to setup a training school to train Sierra Leoneans in motor vehicle mechanics, Spraying, Panel Beating and in Repairs and maintenance. She added that plans are also on the way to import standard spare parts to repair and maintenance vehicle. The Training School will in the near future be affiliated with City and Guilds of London. This project she said will pay off itself.

Dr. Bendu admonished the Minister of Transport and Aviation to help the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority regain it past glory by ensuring that all government vehicles are repaired and maintenance at the authority’s facilities.

The occasion was climax by the cutting of the tape by the Hon. Lonard B. Koroma, Minister of Transport and Aviation, who said that he hope that the rehabilitation and refurbishment of the License Hall will lead to speedy processing of Motor Vehicle Licenses and Drivers Licenses.
