According to report, many prominent personalities who hail from the district witnessed the colourful event and personally contributed financially to the proposed rehabilitation of Bai Bureh Hall which construction was pioneered by the late former Vice President Sorie Ibrahim Koroma under his self-help project in the 70’s and 80s.
Explaining the importance of the hall, the Majority Leader and Head of Government Business, Hon Ibrahim Rasin Bundu, said the building was once used by the All People’s Congress (APC) as their party office when they were in opposition, adding that it was also used by the party for the 2005 National Delegates’ Convention where President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma was chosen as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2007 elections.
He said they were very united at the event to the surprise of many critics who had though that there would be no unity among the politicians of Port Loko District.
Only a few prominent personalities from the district failed to attend the fund-raising diner, including the Minister of Information and Communications, Alhaji Alpha Khan, whose reason for being absent from the occasion was not explained by the organizers.
The occasion reportedly went well and there were side attractions including musical performance by local artistes from Potloko who composed the song “Port Loko Shall Rise Again” illustrating the town’s exuberant past.
