Le 2 Billion Contract in Limbo

Le2 Billion which the Government of Sierra Leone disbursed for the construction of hall and perimeter fence at the Freetown Teachers College (FTC) at Jui on the outskirts of the capital is reported to be in limbo.

Sierra Express Media gathered that Government a few years ago awarded the contract to Building and Civil Engineering Construction Company at No. 2A Carlton Carew Road in west end Freetown, whose proprietor is a Lebanese magnate, Ibrahim Jaffa.

According to the Principal of FTC, Dr Sahr Fillie, the management of the college has been under serious pressure since the 2014/2015 academic year for the completion of the project so that they would be in full control of the hall and the perimeter fence.

Reliable sources disclosed to this medium that the FTC Management has sent the Procurement Officer on leave for one year upon allegations that are yet to be investigated and proven by the FTC Board of Committee chaired by Professor Ndomahina.

Sources added that both the National Public Procurement Authority (NPPA) and Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) are also investigating to bring to book those who have allegedly misappropriated the fund meant for the project.

When contacted to comment on the alleged misappropriation of the said fund for the construction of hall and perimeter fence for FTC, the Registrar, Mr. Sesay, the Estate Officer and the Accountant conceded that investigation into the alleged misappropriation of the project fund is ongoing.

We are following the investigation in public interest as the fund involved in the project is taxpayers’ hard earned money.
