Punjab in Community Development Drive
Punjab Distillery Company with its headquarters in the Eastern Region city of Kenema is reported to be embarking on massive community development drive in the city.
According to the newly appointed Manager of the company, Ms. Victoria Bernard, they have outlined a good number of development programmes for 2016.
She disclosed that in 2015, the company undertook several projects such as road rehabilitation, empowerment of vulnerable women, skills and technical training for the youths and job creation as part of their corporate social responsibility.
Ms. Victoria Bernard disclosed that when she took office as the new Manager of the company, the first thing she did was to visit all projects sites they funded in various communities in Kenema District.
Some of the projects she highlighted were water wells, feeder roads rehabilitation and support to religious institutions in the communities they have established.
The Manager disclosed that for this year, their plan is to support education, the health sector and to create job opportunities for more young people.
It could be recalled that since the APC Government made it a policy that companies should contribute annually to community development programmes in their located areas for the people to benefit from their operations, many complying companies have supported and still continue to support community development programmes with hundreds of millions of Leones.
