Kissy Market Abandoned
The Kissy community market situated at Albion Street in east end Freetown has been abandon by traders over allegation of some demonic manipulations that have caused petty traders to take to street selling at Pyke Street, Macaulay Street, Albion Street, Leaden Hall Street and Blackhall Road.
Random interview conducted revealed that regardless of the extension and refurbishment of the market by Hon. Salam Kanu of Constituency 101 and Councilors, the need to drive away the demon that mysteriously takes away money from traders stands paramount for them to start realizing profit from their trade.
Fatmata Bangura, who deals in foodstuffs, said after the refurbishment and extension of the market, traders that attempted to sell in the market encountered surprise liquidation at the hands of the demon.
Abass Musa, who deals in groundnut, swore that the story of the mysterious demon forcing traders into liquidation is real as it has rendered many traders handicap to honour their micro credit obligations.
He said many traders who have suffered at the hand of what he called ‘Tofie’ demon have since fled to remote places in the peninsular or upcountry to escape arrest.
The abandoned community market, according to our investigation, has been transformed into rendezvous for unscrupulous people within the community.
The Chairman Kissy Cares Development Organisation (KICDO), Morlai Kanu, asserted that complaint of traders about the demonic malpractice in the community market should be treated with the seriousness it deserves as African traditions have the power to make or break.
He furthered that his organisation is yearning for a roundtable with the Freetown City Council (FCC), political parties, community tribal heads and religious leaders to discuss the concerns of community members over the said superstitious allegation.
