Attorney General and Minister of Justice declares his Assets to the ACC

The Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Hon. Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara on Monday 11th January 2016, publicly and officially submitted his Assets Declaration Form to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Presenting the Form to the Deputy Commissioner, Shollay Davies, Mr. Kamara expressed thanks and appreciation to His Excellency, the President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma for the confidence reposed in him to serve as Attorney General and Minister of Justice in the Republic of Sierra Leone. He assured all that he will work diligently to achieve the mandate of the office. The Attorney General emphasized that it was no longer business as usual, and was poised to making sure that justice is served to all citizens. The Hon. Minister underscored, it was a good moment, as he was making it known to all and sundry that he has always practiced what he preached. Mr. Kamara also stressed that he was focused and committed to the fight against corruption at all times.

Receiving the Declaration, the Deputy Commissioner, Shollay Davies thanked the Attorney General, for coming to the Commission, amidst his very tight schedule to submit his Asset Declaration Form. The event is a shining example, which other ministers should follow, Mr. Davies added. He furthered that the Section 119 of the AC Act 2008 obligates all public officers to deposit with the Commission, sworn Assets Declaration Forms three months on assumption of office, but most impressive is that, the Hon. Minister has submitted his Declaration Form, within two weeks of his appointment, which is worthy of emulation. The Deputy Commissioner, used the occasion to call on all public officers to declare their assets as prescribed by law.

It could be recalled, that until his appointment as Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara served as the Commissioner of ACC for over five years and his leadership was characterized by scores of successes in areas of prosecution, mainstreaming of anti-corruption measures into public sector institutions, raising sufficient awareness on the ills of graft, and the implementation of the 2008-13 and the 2014-18, National Anti-Corruption Strategy (NACS).
