Sierra Leone Fish and the European Market

Sierra Leone Fish and the European Market

For over three years now, Sierra Leoneans have been hoping against hope that their fish would find its way into the European Market and thereby bring about a boost to the economy of this country.

The wise slogan, “if anything is worth doing, it is worth doing well,” simply implies that people should not undertake to do what they are not capable of doing well.

From the look of things, the hygienic conditions needed for fishing areas are still far from being achieved.

In various fishing villages, the absence of latrines still leads to villages defecating in the open sea, making it food for the fish that are soon to be commercial commodity for the market.

Visit Goderich, Number Two River, Kent, Bureh Town, Mama Beach and Tombo Beaches to ascertain the veracity of this observation.

This therefore gives us the fear that Sierra Leone fish may still be far away from the British market.

The irony of it is the fact that fish caught in Sierra Leone waters but shipped elsewhere are allowed to enter the European Market.

The Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources and their partners in the project should now brief Sierra Leoneans on the status of the project for our fish to enter the European Market before the citizens grow out of patience.
