3 day old baby abandoned at King Harman Hospital
A Togolese national, Clara who gave birth at the King Harman Road Government hospital on Saturday, due to negligence on the part of the nurses had her baby abandoned by the Ebola burial team.
Clara who was in an intense labour for two days presented her Scan Result authenticating that the unborn baby was cephalic (headlike), but to the disappointment of the nurses in the Labour Ward, the baby was footling (a type of breech birth). The Voiceless Sierra Leoneans are blaming the nurses for negligence, having known thirty minutes before the actual birth that the woman’s unborn baby was a breech birth. They are saying that the nurses would have recommended immediate referral to save the baby and her mother especially when the nurses realised that the woman cannot in any way deliver except under cesarean or in a more equipped hospital.
On the other hand, those who spoke to the Voiceless Sierra Leoneans are blaming the hospital that did the scan to mislead the nurses.
Visit made by the Voiceless Sierra Leoneans ascertained that the woman has been transferred to the PCMH hospital to remove the placenta which was unable to be removed by the nurses.
Meanwhile, the Nurses who were on duty hid the truth from the no nonsense Matron Musu, a woman they say is working tirelessly to ensure that the hospital is well structured and properly administered.
On to the time of writing, the Voiceless Sierra Leoneans and the Nurses made several calls for the burial team to come and remove the corpse which was about to rot and pose a threat to other patients and the entire hospital.
A call to the Ebola toll number 117 on Saturday came back with a promise that they will dispatch the burial team but they did not. Another reminder call was made yesterday morning and they still did not come.
Keep posted for more on the King Harman Road Government Hospital regarding their challenges and the need to overhaul the hospital for proper service delivery.
