After Calls to traditional leaders in Koidu, Bio tours Tonkolili District
As part of his Social Mobilisation tour in Kono District, Rtd Brig. Bio on Thursday 22nd October made courtesy calls to paramount chiefs and other traditional leaders in Koidu Town to commend them for their leadership in the fight against Ebola before leaving for Tonkolili District.
The first courtesy call by Rtd. Brig. Bio was to Paramount Chief Paul Ngaba Saquee at his residence. During the courtesy call, Rtd. Brig. Bio thanked him and other leaders for their contributions towards the final push towards eradicating Ebola. Rtd. Brig. Bio also described the Paramount Chieftaincy institution as a constructive administrative part of the country’s governance system.
In response, PC Paul Ngaba Saquee expressed delight for the visit of Rtd. Brig. Bio. He said as chiefs their hands are always opened to receive people.
Rtd. Brig. Bio also made another courtesy call to Paramount Chief Kamachendeh where he also expressed his thanks to PC Kamachendeh for his contributions to the Ebola fight in the district. Rtd. Brig. Bio was welcomed by PC Kamachendeh and he expressed delights for his social mobilisation efforts.
Also, the Rtd. Brig. Bio made a courtesy call to the traditional chief for women in Kono Madam Jenneh Woowa at her residence. At her residence, Rtd. Brig. Bio thanked her and the contributions of many women in the district in the fight against Ebola. In response, Madam Jenneh Woowa prayed for Rtd. Brig. Bio and thanked him for the visit.
At the SLPP office in Kono, a Press Conference was held where the Rtd. Brig. Bio laughed off and dismissed the idle talk of receiving money from government.
Dismissing the idle talk, Rtd. Brig. Bio rhetorically asked “If the Ebola fight has not been handled well as suggested by others, do I need to sit and fold my hands?” He replied No. Rtd. Brig. Bio went on, “I am using my social capital for us to eradicate the scourge.My ambition has nothing to do with my drive to eradicate Ebola. However, I know that if we continue to have the virus there will be no development in this country”. At the SLPP party office in Kono, many senior stakeholders, party members and supporters praised Rtd Brig. Bio for his social mobilisation drive.
From Kono district, Rtd. Brig. Bio and entourage continued the social mobilisation tour to Tonkolili district where they were received by a large crowd of people.
On his way to Mabguraka in the Tonkolili district, Rtd. Brig. Bio addressed hundreds of youths in Masingbi and Matotoka.
However, sticking to his tour routine, Rtd. Brig. Bio visited officials at the Tonkolili district Ebola response centre. At the centre, Lt. Lavali who is chief of operations briefed Rtd. Brig. Bio on the Ebola situation and the statistics of the district. In his usual courtesy, Rtd. Brig. Bio thanked the officials at the command centre and informed them that his purpose was to add his voice to the social mobilisation.
Later, in a jam packed Tonkolili district council hall, Magburaka, Rtd. Brig. Bio addressed a massive turn out of people including district stakeholders, senior party members and supporters where he thanked the people of Tonkolili and the international community for the fight against Ebola in the district. He told the people that during his visit to the President they agreed that he should add his voice to the social mobilisation. He called on everyone not to be complacent until the country is declared Ebola free.
Other speakers at the occasion included Dr. Abass Bundu, Dr Kadie Sesay and the SLPP District Chairman. All the speakers praised Rtd. Brig. Bio for his initiative on the social mobilisation tour noting that millions of people respect his voice across the country.
It is expected that the visit to Tonkolili district signals the end of the social mobilisation tour for the northern region which has been a remarkable success.
