ACC arrests Town Chief and Secretary of Nengbema, Nyawalenga Chiefdom Bo District
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) wishes to inform the general public that the Town Chief of Nengbema in Nyawalenga Chiefdom, Bo District, Peter Yamah, Secretary to Town Chief Joseph Yokie, former Youth Leader Eddie Johnny, and one Yusufu Foday have been arrested in respect of allegations of conspiracy to commit a corruption offence by issuing false HH Ration cards to residents of Nengbema.
The HH Ration card is a document that entitles verified Ebola victims to receive cash payment in the sum of Le137,000. This project is implemented by World Vision as support to victims of the EVD to improve their livelihoods.
The Town Chief Peter Yamah, his Secretary Joseph Yokie, former Youth Leader Eddie Johnny, and Yusufu Foday presented to Splash Paying Team, unverified beneficiaries purporting to be eligible recipients, to access benefits under the project. The said unverified persons collected Le137,000 and paid Le30,000 each to the Town Chief and others, as reward for facilitating the unlawful enterprise.
The public is further informed that Leslie Lahai Monson, Field Coordinator and Kerfala Babah Janneh, Field Monitor; all of World Vision Bo were also arrested by the ACC and currently detained at the Bo Police Station.
The Commission wishes to reassure citizens of its continued resolve in the fight against corruption.
