Cambridge United sign Sierra Leone defender on loan
Alie Sesay (pictured in action for Sierra Leone) has completed a month-long loan deal to Cambridge United from Leicester on Thursday.
Sesay, 21, is a Sierra Leone international and was in the Leone Stars side during the 2015 African Nations Cup qualifiers.
The former Colchester defender, who is capable of playing as a central defender and right-back, is expected to go straight into the united side for Saturday’s home clash with Northampton Town.
He made his first International debut for Sierra Leone in a goalless draw in Yaoundé against Cameroon October 2014.
Manager Richard Money said United had kept tabs on the Sierra Leone international and felt he would do a decent job.
He said: “Sesay is a young defender who was on loan at Colchester with Joe last year and that helps, but that’s not the reason we’ve brought him in.
“We’ve almost brought him in on two or three occasions in the last 18 months, but there’s just not been the necessity to do it.
“We needed to do something this weekend, so we’ve brought in someone we know quite a bit about.
“He’s a bit different to the other defenders we’ve got in terms of stature, but he’s very quick and he’s happy with the ball at his feet.
“The big plus for him hopefully is that Taft will be fit because they played for three years together at Leicester, so it probably makes sense that the relationship could rekindle pretty quickly.
“Leicester have been very good towards us over Jacob Blyth and I’m sure he’ll do a really good job for us at the back.”
