Deplorable Road Network in Kenema – Residents Raise Concern

The extremely appalling state of the road network in Kenema City has become a cause for the grave concern of residents particularly drivers and school pupils who regularly ply one of the worst roads, Blama Road.

In an interview, the concerned residents noted that such a terrible road network in the Kenema City and the entire district seems to be a glaring manifestation that the central government has neglected the Kenema District possibly for political reasons.

They described the rugged roads as a gross violation or abuse of the right of residents of Kenema who are paying taxes to the central government which should in turn provide good roads and social amenities, furthering that it is the right of every tax payer and all other citizens to enjoy good roads and that depriving them of that right is tantamount to abuse.

Blama Road, which is the main road leading into Kenema City, is one of the famous roads that was constructed in the year 2004 by the Mechanical Service Unit in the sierra Leone Roads Authority but the road has for long been going without repairs, a situation that has rendered almost defunct.

According to drivers, the very bad state of the road has been compelling them to be taking a merry-go-round route into the city. THE concerned Kenema Residents are calling on government to come to their aid and repair the deplorable roads.
