Massive Illegal Admission in Schools

Illegal admission of failed pupils and students in schools and colleges is one of the major factors responsible for the dramatic fall in our educational standards and the consequent academic decadence now plaguing this republic.

In spite of several warnings from the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MEST) for heads of learning institutions to refrain from such unhealthy practice, the vice continues unabated in many of our schools and colleges. Many heads of learning institutions use admission periods as a harvest time to swell their pockets and flood their institutions with failed pupils and students.

Consequently, these failed pupils and students admitted end up producing appalling results which besmear our educational system.

Little wonder we keep recording mass failure in public exams which are usually tainted massive fraud and other academic malpractices; no wonder we now having a proliferation of poor quality graduates who cannot even speak or write correct simple English.

We also blame those parents who keep bribing heads of learning institutions to illegally admit their children. Such parents are only doing more harm than good to their children by contributing to the destruction of the academic future of their children. Any responsible parent who is committed to the academic development of his or her child will attempt to bribe for that child to be illegally admitted into a learning institution.

As long as our schools and colleges continue to admit failed pupils and students, our educational standards will continue to retrogress progressively and it will be very difficult for us to realize our dream of quality education.

Therefore, we are calling on the Sierra Leone Government to do all in its power to put a stop to the rampant illegal admissions in our learning institutions.
