Has Parliament Adjourned Sine Die?
Parrot yesterday flew up the Tower Hill and perched right at the pinnacle of our noble House of Parliament which was as silent as a graveyard with only the guards showing any sign of life. The inquisitive and bold bird breezed into the guard post where the guards told him that parliament has adjourned till further notice.
The professor was stunned by such information as the bird went eagerly to witness the emergency extension debate which never took place probably due to the fact that the main opposition Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) refused to be a party to such a debate. The SLPP had earlier vowed not to take part in any debate relating to any extension of any emergency and the party might have honored its vow.
What stunned the Professor the more was the information that even the committee meetings had been suspended indefinitely. What has gone wrong in our noble house? Is our parliament under its own state of emergency? And why should our Members of Parliamentarians go on what resembles a French leave at a time we need them most to deliver us from every emergency?
Well, if our MPs have decided to unceremoniously leave the big house, the Parrot is recommending that their sumptuous salaries be subtracted for all the days they fail to sit and make our laws. They are paid to sit in that Parliament and they should be there even during the most prolonged emergency.
