GOAL-Ranked Best Humanitarian Organization

Even the blind man can see the good things GOAL is doing in Port Loko, especially in the fight against Ebola. On the day of Eid–ul-Fitri, I was at GOAL’s Port Loko office where I saw a giant plaque which was a certificate of merit, thanks, and appreciation, donated to the humanitarian organization by the survivors who ranked GOAL as the best humanitarian organization in the Port Loko.

On the eve of Eid–ul–Fitri, GOAL disbursed Le80 million; donating Le80,000 each to 70 Ebola survivors and 30 commercial sex workers.

Therefore, GOAL deserves a certificate of merit awarded to it by the Ebola survivors by virtue of the fact that the organization has been playing a tremendous role in ensuring their de-stigmatization, reintegration and financial self-reliance through its livelihood project, funded by the German Charity GIZ formerly GTZ.

I was fortunate to have a brief conversation with the Engineer of GOAL’s Ebola treatment center in Port Loko, Swedish born Lurch Eric, who assured this press that with the extraordinary effort applied by GOAL and its partners, Ebola is heading towards a permanent end in the Port Loko District. What GOAL did by financially equipping the Ebola survivors is timely and a step in the right direction as the survivors need to be commercially enhanced to enable them to be reintegrated into society.

Apart from fighting Ebola, GOAL is also engaged in water, sanitation, and hygiene activities (WASH), community empowerment, protection, and mainstreaming and advocacy programs.

The impact of GOAL’s intervention is clearly visible; such is the types of organization Sierra Leone needs to achieve the President’s vision of prosperity.

The organization is now expanding rapidly covering Port Loko, Bombali, Bo and Kenema Districts including the Western area.

GOAL is an Irish international non-governmental organization operating in 16 developing countries. It has been operating in Sierra Leone since the early days of our notoriously barbaric decade long rebel incursion.
