SWASAL Executive Pays Courtesy Call On Sierra Leone National Olympic Committee
The newly elected National Executive of the Sports Writers Association of Sierra Leone (SWASAL) Wednesday, 24th June, 2015 paid a courtesy call on the President of the Sierra Leone National Olympic Committee (NOC-SL), Dr. Patrick Coker, in his office at Howe Street in Freetown.
In his welcome statement, Dr. Patrick Coker congratulated the SWASAL executive and association members for having conducted peaceful and exemplary elections.
He said: “What you displayed in your elections reminds us of ours (the NOC-SL). That is in the spirit of sports after elections we are all united family.”
The NOC-SL president stated that they committee has an open door policy to every member of the sports family. He also revealed their doors would always be open to SWASAL and its members, to make use of their facilities like the library and resource centre.
“We want a good relationship to establish within the sports family and SWASAL which will enhance sports development in the country,” NOC-SL president Dr. Patrick Coker said.
In his statement, SWASAL Vice President, Austin Thomas, acknowledged NOC-SL’s continued support to SWASAL and its membership, and expressed hope that such would continue and flourish.
SWASAL President, Frank Magnus Ernest Cole, in his remarks pledged the association’s total commitment in enhancing sports development in Sierra Leone, and maintained that SWASAL is indeed interested in using NOC-SL facilities.
He said: “We are looking forward to NOC-SL for more partnership towards capacity building. We hope after the completion of your Olympic Africa project you will incorporate some of our members into courses like sports administration because we want our members to be well armed to the teeth regarding sports.”
Secretary General of NOC-SL, Joseph Nyande, said he was happy that SWASAL has chosen to work with them. He promised SWASAL that with support of his president he would talk with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) regarding the area of capacity building.
He said: “Let us all hope and pray this Ebola Virus be a thing of the past and put it behind us. We will help your association regarding capacitating your membership.”
The NOC-SL hoped that both parties would continue to collaborate towards the development of sports in the country.
