Im not a 2nd choice striker – Obi Metzger
Former Haka FC striker Obi Metzger Jr has revealed that he was tired of being a second choice striker” and needed to move on for the sake of his career.
The 28-year-old, Sierra Leonean who made just 10 league appearances after coming from the sideline during the season past, has left the club in search of regular game-time and has join his former Club Atlantis FC in an open deal move.
“I actually wanted to leave Haka FC, my mind was made up a long time ago,” he says. “I was not going to be anyone’s punching bag or 2nd choice … I wasn’t enjoying my football. I wanted to be number one and for that I needed to play.
“I’ve never had any bad relations or fought with any coach in my career. If I feel I have to go, then I have to go. There were times when our coach Nelson Strosson played the ‘false No 9’ system and we were four strikers waiting to play all the three strikers will play I will be left out on the bench the Leone Stars striker I was growing frustrated over that he said.
“Ultimately, things don’t go as planned but that’s football. If you go to Club, you always have to be on top of your game but mine was different at first it was ok but during the second half it was bad for me due to several injuries.
“Leaving Haka FC has never been about money according to reports in Finland for me; I just wanted a chance to play. I want to join a team where I can showcase my abilities. If it was up to me, I’m better off at a smaller club where I can play regularly.”
Metzger who has been left out of the national team Leone Stars for a while now admits he has not given up on playing for the national team again.
I’m not finished yet I still have my goals there and believe one day I will get my chance back with Leone Stars
However Obi Metzger Jr has scored two goals out of three games played since joining Atlantis from Haka FC three weeks ago, with eight games played so far in the league Atlantis currently is sitting on third position with 10 points.
