TAN members in a press briefing in Freetown revealed Sierra Leone shall play host to TANCon Africa – an international conference for entrepreneurs, business leaders, venture capitalists, and private equity individuals to be held at the Taia Resort in Freetown form December 4th – 6th, 2009.

TAN was formed to explore investment possibilities and help finance existing businesses that have the potential for growth, and Sierra Leone will host this year’s conference in a bid to give chance to potential entrepreneurs to gain access to willing financiers and investors come December this year.

In a dossier, they reveal that the Conference organizers have confirmed speakers and panelists that are collectively responsible for a portfolio of over a staggering billion dollar in investment which is essential for the growth of Sierra Leone and the continent.

Sierra Leone will serve as a case study exploring the theme ‘Virgin Territories: A New Market for innovative Investment.’

The choice of Freetown as venue might not be unconnected with the World Bank Group’s Doing Business 2010 reports which ranks Sierra Leone top out of 183 countries for Protecting Investors and 58th out of 183 countries for starting a Business. This puts Sierra Leone ahead of countries such as France, Italy, Australia, Sweden, Portugal and Botswana.

TANCon Africa 2009 seeks to elucidate similar indicators and opportunities that exist in virgin territories hence bringing real value to attendees. On a practical level, this conference means good quality jobs for Sierra Leoneans and Africans, which is why this conference is so important.

In an interview with one of the Pioneers Sierra Express Media learnt TANCon Africa 2009 will attract over 250 local and international attendees from the United States of America, South Africa, the United Kingdom, Nigeria, Ghana and the rest of the world and that conference participants will range from industry leaders and key decision makers of global financial institutions, fortune 500 companies in ICT, Finance, agriculture, tourism, infrastructure, social entrepreneurship and renewable energy”.

It is reported that the conference will cover relevant topics including: Infrastructure: A Catalyst for Sustainable Development, The Role of ICT in increasing Productivity and Fostering Growth, Renewable Energy -The potential for Africa, How Africa can feed itself and the World, Developing an African Tourism Brand, Sierra Leone: an Investment Destination, Developing Venture Capital and Private Equity in Post Conflict countries and Creating Wealth & Social Impact.
