Parliament clears Sidi Yaya Tunis of fraud
Freetown, March 19 (SLENA0)- As the Public Accounts Committee in Parliament resumes its hearing on Wednesday 18th March 2015 on the management of the Ebola funds, the Director of Information and Technology, National Ebola Center, Sidi Yayah Tunis has been cleared on the Auditor General’s Report. Making his submission on the Report at Committee Room No. 1 in Parliament, Sidi Yaya Tunis said the amount of Le 171,360,000 that was mentioned in the Auditor’s Report was payment for Radio and Television programmes on the Ebola epidemic and that he submitted all relevant documents to the Director of Finance in the Ministry of Health and Sanitation.
The Finance Director, Mr. Festus Kuyembeh, confirmed some before the Committee in Parliament. The PAC also dealt with procurement and Agent suppliers for various Ebola items in the country.
On the other hand, the Committee observed that huge sums of money are owed contractors for work already done, amounting to millions of dollars. The Committee ordered NERC to provide a list of contractors government owes money and to seek a solution to the problem of long delays in payment.
