MOHS Intensifies Cleaning and Decontamination Exercise at FSSG, Convent and Methodist Girls High Schools

The Cleaning and Decontamination Exercise started on Monday March 16, 2015 with the Sengbe Pieh Secondary School at Hamilton which hosted an Ebola Community Care Centre (CCC), and continued on Tuesday March 17, 2015 with the Freetown Secondary School for Girls (FSSG), St. Joseph’s Convent and the Methodist Girls High Schools.
The Coordinator of Street Life Family Organization, Alhaji Sorie Ibrahim Koroma presented a work force of over 400 cleaners and Labourers to cover the FSSG, St. Joseph’s Convent and the Methodist Girls High Schools most of them community members of Brookfields, Ascension Town, Congo Town and Tengbeh Town comprising parents, youth groups and school going children.
Alhaji Sorie Ibrahim Koroma expressed his patriotism to render a national service with 5,000 workforce, and reiterated his commitment to effect the desired goal of the Ministry and Sanitation ahead of the re-opening of schools.
The Principal, FSSG Junior Secondary School, Madam Florence Davies lauded the Ministry of Health, the government and Street Life organization for what she described as an awareness raising venture for parents and guardians to send their children to school.
She expressed appreciation to the National Fire Force Service for the collaboration to making water available in executing the cleaning at a satisfactory level.
The FSSG was founded in 1926 at the Diocesan Building in Freetown and later moved to the present site in 1952 from Tower Hill.
Similar activities were carried at the St. Joseph’s Convent and Methodist Girls High Schools where the Vice Principal Junior Secondary School (JSS), Catherine Foday, and Senior Secondary School (SSS) Principal, Methodist Girls High School, Mrs. Daisy McEwen excitingly embraced the Health Ministry, the government, the National Fire Force Service and the cleaning organization Street Life Family for what they described as a big relief towards the re-opening of schools.
Addressing Heads of the three schools, Deputy Minister of Health and Sanitation II, Madam Madina Rahman reiterated government’s commitment to ensuring that pupils, students, and teachers, live in a safe, healthy and conducive environment ahead of the re-opening of schools across the country.
The cleaners and labourers included school children in the schools vicinity targeted on the basis of the Health Ministry’s new Ebola awareness raising response to community engagement and ownership to help build confidence on the parents and guardians before the re-opening of schools.
Giving her impression during the inspection tour of the exercise, Deputy Minister, Madina Rahman satisfactorily lauded the cleaning and the disinfection team for a work well done as well as for the patriotism demonstrated to bring back the children to school in a safe, healthy and clean environment as deemed by the wishes and aspiration of the Ministry and His Excellency the President, Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health and Sanitation District Health Management Teams together with partners are currently executing the cleaning and decontamination activities in the various schools in Urban and Rural Sierra Leone.
