Chief Imam of the British Army visits Sierra Leone
Imam Asim Hafiz OBE MA, Islamic Religious Advisor to the Chief of Defence Staff and Service Chiefs of the British Army landed in Sierra Leone on Tuesday 11th of March 2015. On arrival he was flown to Port Loko that same day where he met with religious leaders across the board and survivors for teaching and counseling. He returned to Freetown the same day and engaged the next day at the CCSL conference hall the religious leaders as well on the same vein under the supervision and collaboration of FOCUS 1000. In his key note address he said: “you the religious leaders are the right people to do this job as the people trust you whenever you prove to them with verses from both the Qur’an and the bible evidences”.
Imam Asim Hafiz after listening to the over view of the activities of FOCUS 1000 presented by Dr. Ahmad Ramadan Jalloh of the Islamic Action Group (ISLAG) and Reverent Christiana Sutton Koroma of the Christian Action Group (CHRISTAG), confirmed all what they highlighted in their research and added similar evidences to theirs from the Qur’an and the Bible.
The CEO of FOCUS 1000 Alhaji Bailor Jalloh, the president of the Inter Religious Council of Sierra Leone Sheikh Abu Bakar Conteh, the Secretary General of the Sierra Leone Muslim Congress Professor Baba Tunde Abdul Karim, Imams of all the forces in Sierra Leone, Civilian Imams among other personalities were in attendance and made meaningful contributions. The program was chaired by Alhaji UNS Jah.
In another engagement the imam also held another meeting with the Sierra Leone Armed Forces at the Ministry of Defence situated at the Mamy Yoko Hotel Tower Hill in Freetown. After listening to all the speakers he added that: “Sierra Leoneans despite going through difficulties as a result of the ebola epidemic outbreak in the country one can still see happiness on their faces”. “Sierra Leone and UK have enjoyed long time bilateral relations for quite a long time and still continues and that is why the British forces are here with you in this time of your predicament”, the imam added.
The chairman of the occasion Left. Col. Mohamed M. Samura who is the communications officer and Director of information of the RSLAF assured the imam that their Imams and pastors in the Army have team spirit in executing their duties without any hitches.
The key note address was given by DCDS Brigadier John E. Milton while RSLAF chief Imam Lt. Colonel Alhaji Bilal Conteh and pastor Lt. Col. Moses Kargbo briefed the their guest about their religious activities respectively.
The first and only female DCDS Brigadier Kabia gave the vote of thanks while DCDS Brigadier Alhaji Bureh Sesay looks on.
