Parliament probes into procurement supply for 20 Ambulances
The Public Account Committee in parliament on Wednesday 4th march 2015 continued its hearing on the Report on the Management of the Ebola Funds by probing in to the finances of Ministries , Department and Agencies on the Ebola activities in the country (photo: Officials from the ministry of health answering questions to the PAC in parliament )
Arraigned before the committee were officials of the Ministry of Health and Sanitation dealing with procurement on the supply of 20 Ambulance valued at $1.05
According to the Audit report ,the 20 Ambulances were requested by the Ministry of Health on the ongoing fight against the Ebola disease in the country and only 16 arrived as 4 were not accounted for.
The Chairman and members of the Committee asked about the status of the remaining Ambulances status to which the Chief Procumbent Officer Ibrahim Brima Swerry and Mohamed Paul Karma of Kingdom Security Logistics replied that they are in Dubai awaiting shipment.
The Committee however ordered that the four remaining vehicles be brought in as soon as possible.
Members of the Committee raised serious concerns on procurement rules flouted and in which they noted all issues raised by the audit report will be addressed
Officials from the Makeni Government hospital were also arraigned before the committee on incentive payment to health care workers
After deliberations on the matter, the PAC decided to stand them down for further clarification on their documentation .
The committee hearings were adjourned to Friday the 6 of March 2015 when Charles Mambu and KPMG Audit Firm will be in attendance.
