ACC Commissioner bags more laurels

The Commissioner of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has been named HERO OF THE YEAR by the Sierra Leone Children’s Aid Foundation (SLCAF), a youth based organization comprising students from colleges and secondary schools. The President on behalf of the group presented the award to the ACC Commissioner, Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara for his exemplary role in the fight against corruption in the country on Tuesday 10th February 2015, at the Commission’s Gloucester Street Office in Freetown. Receiving the award, the Commissioner of the ACC said he is humbled by their gesture. The award symbolizes a voice in the wilderness that wants to be heard, he added. The ACC boss maintained that the award manifests the good work the Commission has been doing over the years. Mr. Fitzgerald Kamara went further to state that the culture of saying ‘thank you’ is lacking in Sierra Leone and that he is honored by members of the Sierra Leone Children’s Aid Foundation for presenting such an award to him. He praised them for the courage they have to come together and identify people who are contributing meaningfully to nation-building . He urged them not to be despondent with the challenges of teenage pregnancy, school drop-outs and the challenges the country faces today. He encouraged them to work hard for higher attainments and called on them to live a life of integrity so that they would take leadership positions in the future.

Earlier, the President and founder of SLCAF, Mohamed Arkmalin Kamara underscored, they are honoring the ACC Chief for his outstanding performance in the eradication corruption in Sierra Leone. He noted that Mr. Fitzgerald Kamara’s leadership role in combating corruption gives hope to children and young people in the country. He emphasized that once corruption is defeated, there would be space for young people to attain their potential.

The award ceremony was witnessed by the Management staff of the ACC.
