Korea presents credentials to President Koroma
Remarks by His Excellency Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma, President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, on the occasion of the presentation of Letters of Credence by His Excellency Mr. Young Kuk Park Ambassador-Designate of the Republic of Korea to Sierra Leone on Monday 12 April, 2010
Your Excellency Mr. Ambassador, It gives me great pleasure and honor to accept the Letters of Credence by which His Excellency Mr. Lee Myung-Bak, President of the Republic of Korea has accredited you as Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the Republic of Sierra Leone. I also wish to accept the letter of recall of your predecessor.
I appreciate the kind sentiments you have transmitted to me from your President and the friendly people of the Republic of Korea. May I convey through you to your distinguished President my very best wishes for his personal well-being and the continued prosperity of the friendly people of the Republic of Korea.
Mr. Ambassador,
We note and appreciate your avowed aim to further strengthen the already cordial ties existing between our two countries. As you may be aware, my Government has firmed up our people’s aspirations into an ambitious programme for transforming our country into a peaceful, democratic and prosperous nation. This programme is our Agenda for Change.  We are cognizant of the fact that the Republic of Korea at one time confronted many of the challenges we now faced. We are also conscious of the tremendous strides made by the Korean people to overcome many of the challenges. Your country is today renowned the world over for its democratic ideals and technological prowess. We salute the Republic of Korea for these tremendous achievements and seek your country’s cooperation and support as we implement our Agenda for Change.
One area where the Republic of Korea is a world leader is information technology. Today, my country aspires to fully utilize the vast opportunities made possible by the information revolution. My country seeks your expertise and experience in this area. Last month, the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the United Nations, in a visit to Sierra Leone as part of the Peace Building Commission noted your country’s willingness to expand bilateral engagement on IT training for Youths. As a country where the overwhelming majority of our citizens are young people, we believe that increased IT training for them is pivotal to our country’s transformation.
Let me also use this occasion to applaud your country’s leadership role in the Peace Building Commission. It demonstrates your country’s commitment to global peace and development. These are commitments that the government and people of Sierra Leone also share. With continued cooperation we will achieve our common aspirations.
Once more, I congratulate you on your appointment. I hope you will find your accreditation to the Republic of Sierra Leone a rewarding experience.
I thank you all.
