George Brook Community on massive transformation
The George Brook Community otherwise known as Dworzak Farm is becoming one of the fastest developed communities in Sierra Leone. In spite of the fact that the community is also having a population growth, the day to day progress done by the Central Government and the community people has made it become one of the attractive centers for people. The community can now boast of a standard tarred road linking it to the main Pademba Road – Jomo Kenyetta Road junction; one of the best electricity networks with three transforms, which had ended the burden on low voltage; and with a low crime rate as approved by Police Officers at the New England Ville Police Station. In order to give the community new looks, a group of young people led by the Chairman of the Police partnership Board, Alimamy Nehemiah Kargbo and Word Committee Member, Adama Kargbo have taken the bull by its horn to ensure the issue of bad road become a thing of the past. The construction of about a half kilometer feeder road linking Jumu Hall unto the main road at the Community field was intensified over the weekend.
Chairman Alimamy Kargbo (aka Frickey Jombo) revealed that they are doing the road as demonstration of love for their community. He pointed out that this is a self-help project that is been supported by the few Leones contributed by members of the community to prepare food for the works. “We do not have any external support for now,” he said, and added that in spite of the fact that the community is grappling with the Ebola viral disease; this will not in any way stop them from developing the community. Kargbo called on road construction companies to come to their aid as they don’t have all the required tools to do the work. He also appealed to the government and other private sector organizations to help in the transformation process.
The community was said to be an Ebola hot spot area. But according to Madam Adama Kargbo, their effort has changed the situation. She revealed that in as much as the road work is normally done on a weekend (Saturdays and Sundays) the community leaders have not relented in sensitizing the people on Ebola prevention. She pointed out that the ongoing road work is part of their contribution to the government Agenda for Prosperity. “We believe that it is only we the community members that will protect and develop Dworzak Farm,” she said, and further notes that one of their main problems for now is water supply, especially when the rains are over. She called on the government and Nongovernmental Organizations to help the community with a good water supply network.
Similar plea where made by a community elder, Chernor Conteh, who is with a strong conviction that the ongoing development activities will be maintained.
