25 Sierra Leonean Nurses back home from China with laurels

The 25 nurses drawn from the 14 districts across the country comprised Nurse Managers, Public Health Sisters, Nurse Anaesthtists, Staff and State Enrolled Community Health Nurses that completed their training at then Hunan Major Children’s Hospital in China. The nurses, apart from Paediatrics also benefited from lectures on Cardiac Surgery, Stoma, Foot and Mouth diseases, and Family Centred among others.
Welcoming the nurses back home, Health and Sanitation Minister, Dr. Abu Bakarr Fofanah commended them for bringing Laurels into the country and reminded them about their role and responsibility to demonstrate the knowledge gained from the training.
Dr. Fofanah reminded the nurses that the knowledge gained from the training should be articulated into positive action for the benefit of their colleagues and the people of Sierra Leone, especially at this time of the Ebola crisis.
The Minister expressed appreciation over their patriotism, noting that they are now one of the Ministry’s constituents for post graduate studies accreditation.
He said with their presence, there is now optimism for the professional growth of Ola During Children’s Hospital, and assured them of his support to making the nursing profession a more viable institution.

She congratulated the nurses for the successful completion of the training and encouraged them to share their experiences and knowledge with their colleagues.
Madam Rahman said as a nurse, she would like to see them demonstrate love, care and passion for the job.
The Chief Nursing Officer, Matron Hossinatu Kanu while presenting the nurses to the Minister and team earlier, said according to the Report received from the nurses, she is proud to state that would make the necessary impact in their various facilities.

Matron Kanu on behalf of the ministry and the government lauded the Chinese Government for the award of the scholarships, and for their continued support in the fight to contain the Ebola outbreak, adding that the arrival of the nurses would help strengthen the Ebola response phase in the country.
