Sierra Leone and Vietnam building stronger development cooperation in agriculture and health sectors
Diplomats from the Republic of Sierra Leone and the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam have called for stronger ties between the two countries in their development cooperation especially in International Relations, Agriculture, Health, Fishing and Trade. Victor Foh with Vietnam Ambassador to China
This was the direction of series of high level meetings held in Hanoi, Capital of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, between Vietnamese Senior officials from the Foreign, Health and Agriculture Ministries and Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China, with accreditation to the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, His Excellency Victor Bockarie Foh.
On Wednesday, 17th September, in Hanoi, Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, Ambassador Victor Bockarie Foh presented his Letters of Credence to His Excellency President Truong Tan Sang. After the ceremony, the Ambassador engaged high cadre officials in key Ministries in Viet Nam.
During envoy Foh’s meeting with Viet Nam’s Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs, Vu Hong Nam, both diplomats underscored the long standing bilateral relations between the two countries, spanning over a period of thirty-two (32) years.
They both called for more cooperation especially at the political level and they agreed that there was need for high level exchanges of visits by the Foreign Ministers of both countries in preparation for visits at the highest level.
Assistant Foreign Minister Vu Hong Nam and Ambassador Foh underscored the need for a Memorandum of Understanding for Development Cooperation and Investment to be drafted and presented to the governments of both countries.
On his part, Ambassador Foh highlighted to the Vietnamese, the vast investment opportunities in Sierra Leone in the areas of Tourism, Agriculture, Fishing, Mining and infrastructure, amongst other sectors. The Ambassador informed the Assistant Minister that Sierra Leone had a good investment climate and that the country was very investor friendly.
In another engagement with Le Quoc Doanh, the Vietnamese Vice Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Ambassador Foh thanked Viet Nam for her support to Sierra Leone in the Agriculture Sector, through the Food and Agriculture Organization, and called for more support of Food Aide for Sierra Leone especially during this crucial moment of the Ebola epidemic in our country.
The Vice Minister of Agriculture called for a concrete Plan of Action for the development of agriculture in Sierra Leone and to agree on the part Vietnam could play as assistance within the South-South Cooperation framework.
Vice Minister Le Quoc Doanh pledged Viet Nam’s commitment to support Sierra Leone in the area of Food Aide, especially now that Sierra Leone is currently going through an unfortunate Ebola pandemic chapter.
In a similar endeavor, on Thursday, September 18th, Ambassador Victor Bockarie Foh met the Vietnamese Vice Minister of Health, Associate Professor Nguyen Thi Xuyen.
Both diplomats agreed to explore deeper cooperation in the Health Sectors of both countries.
Ambassador Foh briefed Professor Nguyen on the current Ebola Virus Disease in the West African Sub Region and particularly the Sierra Leone Health Sector challenges and called for Vietnam’s support to fight Ebola.
Responding, the Vietnamese Vice Minister said that Viet Nam considers Sierra Leone as a sister country and that both countries will work together to fight Ebola.
On Tuesday 24th September, the Sierra Leone Ambassador in Beijing paid courtesy visit to the Ambassador of Viet Nam in Beijing, People’s Republic of China.
Both Ambassadors agreed to continue their dialogue more often in the interest of strengthening bilateral ties between the two countries.
Ambassador Victor Bockarie Foh again narrated the Ebola menace story as it affects Sierra Leone and requested his colleague, the Ambassador of Viet Nam in Beijing, to join the fight against Ebola.
Ambassador Nguyen Van Tho sympathized with Sierra Leone because of her current Ebola challenge and promised to inform his home authorities in Hanoi, accordingly.
