Henrietta Mbawa denies receiving Ebola money from President Koroma
The rumor which is circulating on the social media forum WhatsApp and Facebook is purported to have come from within State House. It alleges that President Koroma, through the Presidential Task Force, last Thursday night “dished out the sum of One Hundred Million Leones” to representatives of ALL STARS and SOLLYWOOD to help capacitate members of the entertainment industry on a nationwide EBOLA sensitization campaign. Mbawa says such reports were demeaning and ‘heart rendering’. The ‘Deep In The Game’ star who is also a co-presenter of the Airtel Countdown TV show denied reports that she was part of the stakeholders in the entertainment industry who received the money from the President. The beneficiary groups were expected, among other things, compose anti Ebola songs and documentary movies on the deadly disease. Anti-Ebola messages will also be done by comedians.
The rumor further alleges that Mbawa is among nine people present at State Lodge who collected the money on behalf of the industry.
The award winning actress vehemently denied this, saying she`s never held a meeting with President Koroma in the last several months. “Only God knows why someone would make up a treacherous report like this to smear my hard earned image,” she said.
She said she had embarked on three days anti Ebola sensitization from Waterloo to PZ in collaboration with Artical Foryoh. “We didn’t get a dime from anyone for those programs but we had to use our little hard earned resources just to help save lives.”
Mbawa said they even produced Ebola sensitization songs and distributed them for free.
“Sierra Leone has done so much for us and this is just our way of giving back to this country at a time like this,” she said, adding that she felt she`d been affected directly by the Ebola epidemic as she lost one of her uncle’s to it. She vowed to do something to save others.
Mbawa also claimed she`s been getting all sorts of abusive messages on WhatsApp and Facebook but vowed that they would not move her. “This will not dampen my spirit. I will continue to do the good job for Sierra Leone,” she said, while calling for more support from the private sector to enable her go to more places with her sensitization messages. “The fight against Ebola must be a fight for all and we should treat it seriously.”
Mbawa is one of the popular faces in the emerging Sierra Leone film industry. She has starred in over 20 films including the hit films; ‘Deep in The Game’, ‘The Next President’, and Refugees.
